India’s per capita municipal solid waste generation is just 0.37–0.70 kg/day, below the global average of ~0.74 kg/day. Yet, with a population of over 1.4 billion, the country generates ~170,000 tonnes of waste every day making India one of the world’s largest waste generators in absolute terms.
