Shree Refrigerations Powers INS Udaygiri with Indigenous Cooling Technology in Major Defence Milestone

NewsShree Refrigerations Powers INS Udaygiri with Indigenous Cooling Technology in Major Defence Milestone

India continues to strengthen its maritime defence capabilities through indigenous innovation, and the recent commissioning of INS Udaygiri marks yet another bold stride in that direction. A part of Project 17A, INS Udaygiri is the third stealth frigate built under the initiative and was formally commissioned into the Indian Navy on July 1, 2025. Designed and built entirely in India, INS Udaygiri is a testament to the country’s advancing naval engineering—and behind its successful deployment stands Shree Refrigerations Limited, contributing a vital component to this mission: a marine-grade HVAC system designed for harsh sea conditions.

Commissioned on July 1, 2025, INS Udaygiri represents India’s growing technological self-sufficiency under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. Designed and built entirely in India, the vessel features state-of-the-art systems, including Shree Refrigerations’ high-performance marine HVAC system that plays a crucial role in maintaining crew comfort, safeguarding sensitive electronics, and supporting mission-critical operations.

The supplied system is compact, rugged, and engineered for the toughest marine environments. Built with condenser, and compressors, it is optimized for reliability and durability. Integrated with a control panel, the unit is factory-tested for hassle-free deployment.

This achievement, however, is far from a one-off. Shree Refrigerations, under the visionary leadership of Mr. Ravalnath Shende, Managing Director; Mrs. Rajashri Shende, Director; and Ms. Devashree Nampurkar, Executive Director, has consistently contributed to India’s growing defence ecosystem with its indigenous cooling technologies.

The company has made its mark across several prestigious naval platforms, including INS Vagsheer, India’s sixth Scorpene-class submarine; the advanced P17A Stealth Frigates; and more recently, INS Arnala, the country’s first shallow-water anti-submarine warfare (ASW) craft under Project ASW-SWC.

“Our goal is not just to build cooling systems, but to build confidence in India’s ability to support its own defence infrastructure,” said Mr. Ravalnath Shende. “Every unit we deliver is a contribution toward national security and technological independence.” Echoing the company’s values, Mrs. Rajashri Shende stated, “At Shree Refrigerations, quality and national pride go hand in hand. We take immense responsibility in ensuring every unit that leaves our facility upholds the highest standards of reliability and performance.” Ms. Devashree Nampurkar highlighted the company’s continued commitment to modular, space-saving designs built specifically for marine applications. “Whether it’s a stealth frigate or a support vessel, our systems are tailored to meet specific mission needs and space constraints,” she stated.

Shree Refrigerations’ consistent performance and proven track record across a wide range of vessels makes it a trusted partner in India’s naval modernization journey. Their involvement in multiple classes of warships underscores the company’s growing role as a key contributor to India’s defence ecosystem.

As INS Arnala embarks on strengthening India’s coastal and shallow water defence operations, it carries onboard a symbol of Indian innovation—an advanced cooling system that represents the very best of Make in India.

With each successful deployment, Shree Refrigerations reaffirms its position as a cornerstone of India’s defence-grade engineering and a proud partner in the nation’s journey toward complete technological self-reliance.
